My life philosophy of “so what”!

This is the first time I have blogged EVER and I have been struggling over a fitting topic.  Then I reminded myself that most blogs are NOT exactly profound, simply a point of view, and boy do I have that!  During the past 22 years owning and designing for my retail stores in NYC, I have had the most amazing conversations, with the most amazing people…and of course some not-so-amazing ones too!  I see this blog as an extension of those conversations, only with an even greater and more diverse group.

As I get older I am pleased that I seem be less picky about many things.  I guess you could sum up my personal philosophy in life as “so what”.  That’s not to say I am flip about things or shrug responsibilities.  It’s just that I genuinely don’t care about my house being spotless, my hair being perfect, my son taking a bath every day.  Pretty much anything is more important.

This year one of my oldest and dearest friends lost her only child to Leukemia.  He had been in remission for 12 years.  Their courage and grace will remain with me always.  Without a doubt, it has changed me forever.  It has helped me prioritize things in a big way.  I hold my son tighter.  I  spend even more time with my son and husband.  All the other things can, and do wait.  Nothing is more precious than the ones you love, and  I am thankful every day for their love, laughter and acceptance.

Now, when work beckons, my closets are bursting and begging to be organized, the house is a mess…I just say “so what!”  In the big picture, how much does it really matter?  And then I take the time and tickle-attack my son, still one of his favorite things, even though he is a mature 10-year old.  These are the important things in life!
