My name is Karin Alexis, designer and owner of Karin Alexis Designs and the Karin Alexis store on the Upper West Side of New York City. Most importantly, I am a mother and that influences every decision I make.

Seven years ago, my boy, Bryant, was born. Like other new moms, I wanted to present Bryant to the world in clothes that were not only comfortable and warm, but also high quality, affordable, and unique as he is.

What a frustrating search! I must have gone to twenty stores to look for interesting boys' clothes. Unless I wanted to dress Bryant in blue jeans or pastel-colored outfits there wasn't much that was interesting, really interesting. Girls' clothes were wanting too.

I confirmed my observations with other mothers. Having designed women's clothing, lingerie, and jewelry in the past, I decided it was time to design clothes for both boys and girls that were cozy, sturdy, stylish and fun. I like to think I design things that my grandmother might have left me.

Though the clothes are new, they are the classics of tomorrow and give a feeling of worth and history, things lovingly designed and made to be passed on, generation after generation.
